Our October SCMN meeting features guest speaker Dr Tim Jones, who will present on ‘Spiritual Care and the LGBTIQ+ Community’.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session, as well as an opportunity to participate in breakout sessions with your peers to discuss and reflect on the topic presented.

About the Presenter: Tim is a historian and social researcher with expertise in equality and wellbeing related to religion, gender and sexuality, particularly in the UK and Australia.

He has worked as a consultant and visiting expert to numerous inquiries, including to the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in England and Wales, and the UN Human Rights Council investigation into so-called “LGBT conversion therapy”. He is currently writing a book on the rise of the New Christian Right in Australian politics, a biography of the English theologian and historian, D.S. Bailey, and leads an ARC Linkage Project researching the scope and nature of LGBTQA+ conversion ideology and practices in Australia, in partnership with the Victorian Government, the Brave Network, and the Australian LGBTIQ+ Multicultural Council (AGMC).

Tim recently launched a report on LGBTIQ Spiritual Care and Conversion Therapy.

About SCMN: The Spiritual Care Management Network (SCMN) is comprised of directors, managers, and coordinators of spiritual care in health services and is facilitated by Spiritual Health Association staff.

The network provides a forum for discussing current and pressing issues, enabling important conversations among management from different states working in various settings. This engagement keeps SHA informed of the critical issues in the sector, which we recognise and address strategically as the peak body for spiritual care in healthcare.

Topics are regularly incorporated based on survey responses to tailor them to the network’s needs, with a view to engaging more health service managers.

Sharing our experiences, innovations, and advocacy journeys with one another fosters knowledge, encouragement, and ongoing support for current and emerging leaders.
