About the opportunity

Our Chaplaincy and Pastoral Practice team has been going through an exciting period of transformation and we are seeking a full-time Head of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Practice to continue to lead this critical period of change. The role will be based at our head office in the Sydney CBD. This is both a pastoral and a senior leadership role in which you will need to understand the latest developments in chaplaincy practice, nurture development and communicate change to Executive and practitioners. In this role, you will:

  • Enhance the profile and champion the value of chaplaincy through across Uniting services  and the Uniting Church. Promote and ensure the sustainability of Chaplaincy in Uniting and be responsible for managing, leading and developing teams of Chaplains and Pastoral Practitioners to deliver a high level of differentiated quality spiritual and pastoral support to staff and clients of Uniting.
  • Define priorities and appropriate outcomes and budget management for the Chaplaincy and Pastoral Practitioner team
  • Encourage innovative practice in the delivery of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Practice.
  • Work with the Director of Mission, Communities and Social Impact to identify and implement collaborative strategies to achieve strong missional relationships between Uniting and the wider Uniting Church. Promote the values and standards of the Uniting Church.
  • Establish and nurture collaborative relationships based on trust, integrity and respect across Uniting and with service managers and leaders.
About you

You are an experienced Chaplain or Chaplaincy coordinator with at least 5 years in practice and substantial experience in a senior leadership role in any capacity in a large organisation. You'll be an enthusiastic self-starter who can work independently and, importantly, is not afraid of hard work. Specifically, you will be able to demonstrate:
  • Your understanding of the Uniting Church in Australia and your support for its practices and ethos
  • Your capacity to lead an operational area across the State with multiple teams and to build the capability of others.
  • Your competence in providing high-level strategic advice and practical support to the Board and Executive on current practice and developments in chaplaincy and spiritual support.
  • Your ability to champion an inclusive and diverse work environment
