Honouring Spiritual Health Association

The peak body for spirituality in health care transitions to Meaningful Ageing Australia

Spiritual Health Association has been a remarkable organisation for over the past 50 yrs, and strongly aligned to the aims of Meaningful Ageing Australia.

Spiritual Health Association is the national peak body for spiritual care in the health sector, with focus on advocacy for and promotion of compassionate, person-centred spiritual care in health services. Since 1974, SHA have been collaborating with health services, faith communities and other key partners and stakeholders, to expand the availability and accessibility of spiritual care as an integral part of quality healthcare.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Meaningful Ageing Australia (MAA) and Spiritual Health Association (SHA) establishes a collaborative relationship to ensure a smooth transfer of SHA’s intellectual property and resources to MAA as SHA winds up its activities. Ensuring the availability and maintenance of SHA’s resources into the future.

Chair of Spiritual Health Association, Dr Eleanor Flynn said ‘While we grieve the loss of SHA we are delighted that MAA reached out to us and are providing ongoing support to our members and those working in spiritual health, and that the the valuable research and support to health services SHA provided for 50 years will not be totally lost’.

Paul Sadler, Chair of Meaningful Ageing Australia echoed this sentiment: ‘Meaningful Ageing Australia is privileged to be tasked with the responsibility to keep SHA’s work alive and to support their members over coming months.  SHA’s research and support for health services complements our role as the spiritual care peak for the aged care sector’.
