Celebrating the Small Wins
At the time of writing, Australia is reveling in its most successful Olympic campaign ever, and the Paralympic Games have just kicked off. We truly are a sports-mad nation, and this Olympic success, along with impending finals for the respective footy codes, has sports fans everywhere buzzing with excitement!
It got me thinking about how we celebrate wins, whether they’re big or small. It’s easy to cheer for medals, championships, or premierships. But for most of us, it’s often the smaller victories that we hang on to. A personal best here, the completion of a milestone there. Finishing an important piece of work. Starting a new chapter of life or closing an old one. There are countless moments worth celebrating along our journey – many of them far less glorious, but no less significant in our lives. One of the keys to a fulfilling life, of course, is to seek out these moments, recognise them, and celebrate them.
At SHA this month, we continue to navigate our challenges while celebrating key achievements. The pilot phase of the National Model for Spiritual Care in Health has wrapped up, and we’re close to publishing the report – a significant milestone. We’re excited to share the positive outcomes with the sector in upcoming editions of our newsletter. In addition, we’ve just launched a suite of professional development modules on our new website, in partnership with our colleagues at the Spiritual Care Association in the United States. These modules are designed to provide high-level professional development, supporting the training of health service teams. As we forge ahead into SHA’s new future, we are marking these small but important victories.
I wonder what small wins you are celebrating today in your personal or professional life. When challenges arise, as they often do, it’s important for us to step back, take a breath, reflect inward and observe outward to recognise the wins along the way. I hope you can see those wins too!
Here’s to celebrating the small victories with you along the way.
